MISSION

July 2006

Back to Mission Page

Once again the Committee of Mission, Ecumenism and Social concerns would like to thank the members of the congregation for their generous gifts. It is because of this generosity that we are able to give to the following committees our first pledges for 2006.

DIRECTED MISSION
Church Development - Rural Ministry: Grants for Rebuilding Rural Communities Rural communities are changing. Some are growing as new retirees move in along with people who are able to work with a laptop, Internet and fax machine. Other communities are depopulating due to economic depression resulting from the farm crisis and other effects of globalization. Community change effects congregational life. The 203rd General Assembly (1991), in a report, “The Church Responding to Rural America,” recommended that the General Assembly provide a grant program that supports churches that work collaboratively with other churches and organizations to envision and develop new projects that will rebuild community life.

Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy
ACSWP continues the historical commitment of PC (USA) to speak prophetically. Through social policy development and its interpretation, ACSWP assists all church members, corporately and individually, to understand and undertake the societal responsibility of Christians consistent with the Reformed Tradition. In the next year ACSWP will be involved in: Building Community Among Stranger; Middle Governing Bodies’ Partnership in Social Witness; Gambling; Just Peacemaking; Domestic Violence; Human Rights Update; Theological Educators Symposium; Social Witness Policy Compilation and Index; and Advice and Counsel Resource.

Racial Ethnic Ministries
The goal of the Racial Ethnic Ministries is to assist the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to become a more racially just, inclusive and culturally diverse church and to strengthen the ministries of racial ethnic congregations within the context of their unique faith heritage. Major emphasis is on the implementation of the racial ethnic church growth strategy and the Facing Racism policy statement.

Shared Mission - Presbyterian Shared Mission
Supports the work of the Presbyterian Church (USA) both nationally and around the world to spread the Gospel, support hospitals and schools, to sponsor missionaries and to fund a variety of directed assistance for peoples and churches in need.

Once again, we thank you for making these efforts come true.
