Jack Lohr, Pastor
Rev. John Freeman "Jack" Lohr began his ministry with us 12/1/2015. He recently announced that he will be retiring from ministry and leaving this congregation at the end of May, 2019. We will miss him, and wish him God's blessing. We know that God will lead us in this exciting time of transition.
Jack came from an interim ministry with Hitchcock Presbyterian Church, Scarsdale. He served other interims in White Plains (UCC), Mount Kisco, and Middletown, NY. His longest pastorate was 23 years in Franklin Lakes, NJ. He holds degrees from Union (NY) and San Francisco seminaries, and Swarthmore College. A life-long learner, Jack has completed training in pastoral studies, conflict mediation, and interim ministry. He lived in Mexico as a teenager and is bilingual in Spanish.
Jack’s wife Janice is retired Coordinator of Nurse Teachers from the Ridgewood (NJ) public schools. They are parents to 4 children (and spouses) and 4 grandchildren: Rebeca & Nicholas Denny in Zurich, Switzerland; Michael Lohr, in Princeton, NJ, Sarah & Paul Wyka, Eleanor (5) and Katherine (3) in Wyckoff, NJ; and Daniel & Taryn Lohr, Benson (6) and Landry (4), in Sonoma, CA. Jack and Janice recently moved to Hawthorne, NJ, to be closer to Janice's calling (caring for the Jersey grandkids), and Jack joined the ranks of those who depend on (and complain about) NJTransit. He still enjoys getting out with the Lohrs’ aging Shepherd-mix-rescue Payton. Their cat Murphy has moved to Princeton.
Jack says, "I been blessed to share in FPCFH's mission to welcome all people into our diverse family of Christian faith and fellowship… I strive to proclaim and practice the message of God’s love and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Please call me Jack."
David has been in the choir and a member of our church since Fall 1993, and has served on both the Board of Deacons and the Session. He continues to be the liaison and Chair of the Forest Hills Presbyterian Day School, a position he has held since 1994, and is an active member of the church. In October 2015, he joined our staff as Administrative Assistant, and enjoys the challenges of everyday church life and continues to look forward to the continuing changes we experience in our diverse congregation, as well as moving forward to new visions for our future.
David Yurick, Organist
David J. Yurick has been Choirmaster and Organist since 1974. He has been called "a fine musician and knows how to get the best responses not only from the choir but from the congregation."
David is originally from Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he studied with Ludwig Lenel at Muhlenberg College. He moved to New York City to complete a Masters Degree in composition and studied at Queens College with Henry Weinberg, George Perle and Leo Kraft. He has also appeared as a solo concert pianist in Ghent, Belgium with the Jandora Opera Festival.
We are blessed to have him, and we look forward to what he will be able offer on our new Rodgers organ!
